Global oil prices. We expect global oil inventories to rise through 2026, putting significant downward pressure on oil prices in the coming months. We forecast that the Brent crude oil price will fall to an average of $62 per barrel (b) in the fourth quarter of 2025 and $52/b in 2026.

Statement on EIA’s operating status as of October 1, 2025

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will be able to operate for a period of time during the lapse in appropriations. Until further notice, the EIA.gov website will continue to be updated, and publications will continue to be released according to established schedules.
EIA will continue collecting energy data from survey respondents as scheduled. A comprehensive list of upcoming data and report releases is available on the EIA website.

Data for wood pellet and other densified biomass fuel production, sales, and inventory levels from 75 operating manufacturers of densified biomass fuel in the United States. Facilities with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons or more per year are required to report monthly.

Data in the September 2025 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for July 2025, when net generation in the United States increased 3.8% from July 2024. Coal consumption for power generation was up 11.2% compared with last year. The average residential retail price of electricity was up 5.2% from July 2024.
