State Energy Consumption, Prices, and Expenditures

The Integrated Total Energy data for the year 2000 for each State are now available on the EIA States Energy Page: States Energy Select your State and look under the "Total Energy" oval. Also, for petroleum consumption, click on "Consumption" under the "Petroleum" oval. For multiple states data click on the Multi-State data tab and look for Consumption, Prices and Expenditures in most of the energy categories: Multi-State Data

Monthly Natural Gas Time Series Data, by State -- an Update

EIA's Monthly Natural Gas Time Series Data, by State have been updated. On the EIA States page, click on the desired State on the US Map and then select the desired time series under Natural Gas; Or, from the right column of the EIA States page you can go directly to the EIA Monthly Time Series Data for each State. Two sets of Natural Gas time series have been updated: (1) Prices, (2) Production & Use. The series start from January 1997 and go through November 2002. The data are extracted from the Oil and Gas Information Resource System (OGIRS).

Electric Power Annual 2001

The report presents 12 years (1990 - 2001) of national level data on generation; capacity; demand, capacity, and capacity margins; fuel; emissions; trade; retail customers, sales, and revenue; revenue and expense statistics; and deman-side management. Power producers are separated into the 2 major categories of electric generators and combined heat and power. Greater detail will be made available in spreadsheet format on the Internet.

Forecasting Crude Oil Spot Price Using OECD Petroleum Inventory Levels

This paper (reprinted from the International Advances in Economic Research (Nov, 2002) describes a simple model to forecast West Texas Intermediate crude oil spot prices. This short-term monthly forecasting model uses only lagged relative OECD petroleum inventories as the explanatory variable. Since petroleum inventories are a measure of balance between production and demand, the paper develops the concept of relative inventories and shows how they can be used to develop crude oil spot price forecasts.

The Energy Information Administration will host its eleventh annual National Energy Modeling System/Annual Energy Outlook Conference on March 18, 2003, at the Renaissance Hotel, 999 Ninth Street, NW, Washington, DC, near the Gallery Place Metro station. The conference includes speakers and attendees from Federal and State governments, private industry, and trade associations, discussing energy issues particularly related to EIA¿s Annual Energy Outlook 2003, which was released in January 2003, and the National Energy Modeling System. Inventory of Nonutility Electric Power Plants in the United States

This report is now available on EIA's Electricity page. The report presents detailed statistics on existing generating units operated by nonutilities as of December 31, 2000 and certain summary statistics about new generating units planned for operation by nonutilities during the next 5 years. The detailed generating unit level data, presented by State, include capacity, energy source, prime mover type and year of initial commercial operation. Summaries of electric generating capacity are presented at the National level and various regional levels, by energy source.

In 2024, U.S. utilities operated 94 nuclear reactors with a total net generating capacity of nearly 97 gigawatts (GW), the largest commercial nuclear power generation fleet in the world. The next three countries with the largest programs were France with 57 units (63.0 GW), China with 57 units (55.3 GW), and Russia with 36 units (28.6 GW).
