Nov 7, 2019 EIA has updated its country analysis Executive Summary for Sudan/South Sudan from the previous country analysis brief. The Executive Summary contains detailed information and updates to crude oil production, consumption, and exports as well as other significant changes in the countries’ energy sectors, and the Background Reference provides additional context to the Executive Summary. In Sudan, a political transition is underway; political protests that began with grievances over the increase of prices for basic food staples has led to the removal of President al-Bashir from office. Al-Bashir is currently imprisoned while the military is leading the government in the interim. It is unclear whether the military-led government will allow for the transition to a civilian-led democracy. Meanwhile, South Sudan is still attempting to attract more foreign investment in order to boost its crude oil production and bring much-needed revenue, but the country has yet to resolve issues regarding security and stable governance.

Oct 31, 2019 The 2018 Natural Gas Annual shows both U.S. dry natural gas production and consumption rose to record highs in 2018. Domestic dry natural gas production in 2018 was 30.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), or 83.8 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) and 12.0% higher than the 2017 level of 74.8 Bcf/d. Louisiana saw the largest total gain by volume in annual dry natural gas production, increasing 31.9%, from 5.77 Bcf/d in 2017 to 7.62 Bcf/d in 2018. Arkansas saw the largest total decline in production, decreasing 15.1% from 1.90 Bcf/d in 2017 to 1.62 Bcf/d in 2018.
Oct 31, 2019 This issue contains extensive revisions to data for 2017, 2018, and year-to-date 2019 because of benchmarking to annual data published in the Natural Gas Annual 2018 (NGA). These revisions primarily apply to statistics on production, underground storage, consumption, and prices by sector. A detailed description of the revisions and benchmarking process is in Appendix C of the Natural Gas Monthly (NGM).

Oct 31, 2019 Net injections into working gas storage in the South Central region totaled 44 billion cubic feet (Bcf) for the week ending October 25, 2019. Net injections into salt dome working gas storage facilities totaled 25 Bcf for the week, matching the previous record for the week ending October 14, 2016. This week’s combined salt and non-salt implied net flows into working gas in the South Central region is tied for the fifth largest weekly net injection on record in the history of the five-region weekly working gas estimates, dating to 2010.
Oct 25, 2019 The Monthly Energy Review is EIA's comprehensive report on recent and historical energy statistics. Preliminary data for July 2019 indicate that total carbon dioxide emissions from U.S. consumption of energy (excluding biomass) equaled 442 million metric tons. Of this total, petroleum accounted for 46%, natural gas for 29%, and coal for 25%.
Oct 25, 2019 Working gas stocks climbed higher than the five-year average for the first time since the fall of 2017 as a result of near-record injections into working gas stocks during the 2019 refill season (typically April through November). The deficit to the five-year average reached 565 billion cubic feet (Bcf)—its highest level during 2019—during the week ending March 8. The deficit fell somewhat during the weeks leading up to the 2019 refill season. Working gas stocks entered the refill season this year 505 Bcf lower than the five-year average, but they increased in each successive week for the first 15 weeks of the refill season. The deficit to the five-year average continued to shrink in most of the weeks that followed.
Oct 24, 2019 Data in the October 2019 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for August 2019, during which net generation in the United States fell 1.5 percent from the August 2018 level. Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 8.3 percent compared to August 2018. The average residential retail price of electricity for August 2019 was up 0.3 percent from what it had been in August 2018.

Oct 17, 2019 Working natural gas stocks in the Lower 48 states totaled 3,519 billion cubic feet (Bcf) for the week ending October 11, 2019, 14 Bcf more than the previous five-year average, according to the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) released this week. Last week was the first time that Lower 48 states’ working gas stocks exceeded the five-year average since September 22, 2017. This deficit to the five-year average has been shrinking since mid-March, when it reached 556 Bcf. Oct 11, 2019 Starting at midnight, Pacific Standard Time on October 9, 2019, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E)—a large integrated combined services company with nearly 5.5 million customers in Northern and Central California—implemented what they referred to as a Public Safety Power Shutoff. PG&E intentionally stopped delivery of electricity to its customers in certain parts of their service territory that are considered vulnerable to fire risk because of gusty winds and dry conditions. These planned outages have contributed to lower electricity loads in parts of California. PG&E is providing regular updates on the outage in an interactive map.
