The data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $59 per barrel (b) in August, down $5/b from July and $13/b lower than the average from August of last year. EIA forecasts Brent spot prices will average $60/b in the fourth quarter of 2019 and $62/b in 2020. EIA forecasts that West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices will average $5.50/b less than Brent prices in 2020.

" Additionally, state motor fuels tax information with rates in effect as of July 1, 2019 is available on the PMM website.

Natural Gas Monthly

In June 2019, for the 26th consecutive month, dry natural gas production increased year to year for the month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in June 2019 was 2,735 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 91.2 Bcf/d. This level was 9.4 Bcf/d (11.5%) higher than the June 2018 level of 81.8 Bcf/d. The average daily rate of dry production was the highest for any month since EIA began tracking monthly dry production in 1997.

Data in the August 2019 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for June 2019. During that month, net generation in the United States fell 5.6% from the June 2018 level. Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 3.1% compared with June 2018. The average residential retail price of electricity for June 2019 was up 2.3% from June 2018.

Hourly Electric Grid Monitor

EIA launched a beta release of its new Hourly Electric Grid Monitor, a redesigned and enhanced version of the existing U.S. Electric System Operating Data website. The data come from Form EIA-930, Hourly and Daily Balancing Authority Operations Report, which collects hourly electricity demand, forecast demand, net generation, and interchange data from the electricity balancing authorities that operate the electric grid in the Lower 48 states. The Hourly Electric Grid Monitor incorporates two new data elements: hourly electricity generation by energy source and hourly subregional demand.

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) earned almost $711 billion in net oil export revenue in 2018; however, EIA forecasts annual OPEC net oil export revenue will decline to $593 billion in 2019 and to $556 billion in 2020 as a result of decreasing production among a number of OPEC producers.

U.S. wholesale natural gas spot prices fell to record lows in first half 2024 ›

The average monthly wholesale spot natural gas price at the U.S. benchmark Henry Hub fell by 20% to $2.56 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) between January and June of this year, according to data from Refinitiv Eikon. In January, the Henry Hub price averaged $3.18/MMBtu, then dropped to $1.49/MMBtu in March, marking the lowest average monthly inflation-adjusted price since at least 1997. In addition, prices from February through April 2024 were the lowest ever recorded for these months. More
