Oct 30, 2020 Japan is the world's largest liquefied natural gas importer and ranks in the top five countries for the highest coal imports and consumption of crude oil and petroleum products. Japan is gradually bringing back nuclear power generation after a complete shutdown of the industry following the Fukushima accident, and the country continues to rely on fossil fuel imports to supply most of its energy needs.
Oct 30, 2020 In August 2020, for the fourth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year over year for the month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in August 2020 was 2,801 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 90.4 Bcf/d. This level was 4.5 Bcf/d (-4.7%) lower than the August 2019 level of 94.8 Bcf/d. Despite this year-over-year decrease, the average daily rate of dry production was the second highest for the month since the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) began tracking monthly dry production in 1973.
Oct 30, 2020 These monthly production estimates are based on data from Form EIA-914, Monthly Crude Oil, Lease Condensate, and Natural Gas Production Report.
Oct 30, 2020 Imports data at the company level collected from Form EIA-814, Monthly Imports Report.
Oct 30, 2020 Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for August 2020. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased during the past five years. The data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.
Oct 30, 2020 Supply and disposition of crude oil and petroleum products on a national and regional level. The data describe production, imports and exports, movements, and inventories.
Oct 30, 2020 Monthly national and regional biodiesel production data for August 2020. In addition to biodiesel production, data included producer sales, producer stocks, and feedstock inputs.
Oct 27, 2020 The Monthly Energy Review is EIA's comprehensive report on recent and historical energy statistics. Preliminary data for July 2020 indicate that total energy consumption in the U.S. commercial sector equaled 1.5 quadrillion British thermal units, a 5% decrease from July 2019.
Oct 26, 2020 This month’s Electric Monthly Update contains data for August 2020 and a feature article about how operating heat rates of natural gas-fired combined-cycle power blocks are declining.
Oct 26, 2020 Data in the October 2020 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for August 2020, during which net generation in the United States fell 0.4 percent from the August 2019 level. Consumption of natural gas for power generation was down 0.1 percent compared to August 2019. The average residential retail price of electricity for August 2020 was down 0.1 percent from what it had been in August 2019.
Oct 23, 2020 The U.S. Energy Information Administration released its annual U.S. Biodiesel Plant Production Capacity report. The new report contains data for all operating U.S. biodiesel plants as of January 1, 2020.

Oct 22, 2020 This site contains spreadsheets with wholesale electricity and natural gas data from eight major trading hubs that cover most regions of the United States. The data are through October 20, 2020 and are republished, with permission, from the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).
Oct 22, 2020 This report estimates stochastic frontier energy demand functions with non-public, plant-level data from the U.S. Census Bureau to measure the energy efficiency gap and energy price elasticities in the food processing industry. Estimates of the energy efficiency gap are smaller but empirically more reasonable when using this new estimation methodology. Own-prices are generally inelastic with little evidence of fuel or electricity substitution.
Oct 21, 2020 The Electric Power Annual 2019 (EPA2019) report is now available with final data through 2019. The EPA2019 presents 11 years (2009–19) of national-level data on electricity generating capacity, electricity generation and useful thermal output, fuel receipts, consumption, and emissions. The EPA2019 discontinues Tables 8.5 through 8.13.B. Table 8.5, Revenue and Expense Statistics for U.S. Cooperative Borrower-Owned Electric Utilities, is dependent on non-EIA data that EIA has not been able to obtain since the 2010 data year. Tables 8.6.A–8.13.B, which focus on North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Assessment Area data, were dependent on Form EIA-411 data. EIA discontinued the EIA-411 data collection effective in March 2020. These data are, however, still being collected by NERC.

Oct 14, 2020 EIA’s new Handbook of Energy Modeling Methods explains, in plain language, the processes EIA uses to produce long- and short-term projections of key energy market statistics. Today EIA released Handbook documentation for most of the World Energy Projection System (WEPS), along with some parts of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) and the Short-Term Energy Forecasting System (STIFS). Additional Handbook sections will become available in the coming months.

Driven by an increase in wholesale natural gas prices, retail U.S. natural gas prices for every sector have increased so far this year, although the increases are uneven across sectors. In our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, we expect the 2025 annual average price of natural gas paid by electric power plants to increase by 37% and the price paid by industrial sector customers to increase by 21% compared with the 2024 averages. We forecast that natural gas prices for customers in the commercial and residential sectors will increase by less, at 4% each. More ›
