Mar 6, 2020 Several natural gas pipeline upgrades are either planned or under construction in New England, which will increase deliverability into the region during the next several years. According to the U.S. Energy Administration's (EIA) tracking of natural gas pipeline projects, four pipelines are expected to increase compression in their systems by 2023, adding more than 350 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas pipeline capacity into the region.

Feb 28, 2020 In December 2019, for the 32nd consecutive month, dry natural gas production increased year to year for the month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in December 2019 was 2,977 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 96.0 Bcf/d. This level was 7.3 Bcf/d (8.2%) higher than the December 2018 level of 88.7 Bcf/d. The average daily rate of dry production was the highest for the month since EIA began tracking monthly dry production in 1997.

Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 17.5% compared with December 2018. The average residential retail price of electricity for December 2019 was up 2.1% from its December 2018 level.

Feb 21, 2020 On February 5, 2020, the Independent System Operator for New England (ISO-NE) announced the results of its 14th annual Forward Capacity Market (FCM) auction. ISO-NE holds the auctions to ensure that the New England power system will have sufficient electricity supply resources to meet the future demand for electricity. In this most recent auction, ISO-NE secured electric generating capacity covering June 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024.

Feb 20, 2020 In the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) February Energy Outlook (STEO), EIA forecasts the Lower 48 working natural gas in storage (stocks) will end the 2019–20 heating season (November 1–March 31) at 1,935 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 243 Bcf more than the five-year average. In the forecast, net injections during the refill season (April 1–October 31) will bring working gas stocks to about 4,029 Bcf, which would be the most natural gas in U.S. inventory on record as of the end of October 2020.

Feb 11, 2020 EIA expects global petroleum and liquid fuels demand will average 100.3 million barrels per day (b/d) in the first quarter of 2020. This demand level is 0.9 million b/d less than forecast in the January STEO and reflects both the effects of the coronavirus and warmer-than-normal January temperatures across much of the northern hemisphere. EIA now expects global petroleum and liquid fuels demand will rise by 1.0 million b/d in 2020, which is lower than the forecast increase in the January STEO of 1.3 million b/d in 2020, and by 1.5 million b/d in 2021.
