Issues in Focus: Inflation Reduction Act Cases in the AEO2023
Mar 16, 2023
We present alternative cases to the Annual Energy Outlook 2023 (AEO2023) that vary the level of tax credits clean energy projects qualify for under the IRA. The IRA offers a base investment and production tax credit that can be increased if projects are domestically produced, meet labor requirements, or are located in energy communities (former brownfield sites, areas with above-average unemployment rates, or areas that rely on fossil fuel industries for employment or tax revenue).
In this analysis, the Reference case includes the IRA and reflects our view of the most likely tax credit uptake. We evaluate the lower and upper bounds of the impacts of the tax credits incorporated in the Reference case by applying the lowest tax credits allowed in the Low Uptake case and the highest possible tax credits in the High Uptake case. The No IRA case includes the same economic, technology, and market outlooks as the other cases but excludes the IRA provisions.

Liquids pipeline projects
Mar 9, 2023
This spreadsheet contains detailed information on liquids (crude oil, petroleum products, and hydrocarbon gas liquids) pipeline projects that have been completed (since 2010), announced, or canceled or are on hold or under construction. We do not collect the data on an EIA survey, but rather we compile the data from various sources including trade press, pipeline company websites, and government agencies. These data are not a forecast. They represent last-known public information on projects, as of the December 31, 2022. We will update this spreadsheet twice a year.
Short-Term Energy Outlook

Algeria Country Analysis Brief
Mar 2, 2023
Algeria is a major crude oil and natural gas producer in Africa and has been a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 1969, about 10 years after Algeria first began producing crude oil. Algeria imports very little energy as its domestic consumption is met by its own oil and natural gas production, which is heavily subsidized. Natural gas and oil account for almost all of Algeria's total primary energy consumption.

Feb 28, 2023
In December 2022, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the month for the 21st consecutive month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in December 2022 was 3,068 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 99.0 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). This level was 1.0% (1.0 Bcf/d) higher than December 2021 (98.0 Bcf/d) and the highest level for the month since 1973, when we began tracking dry natural gas production. Gross withdrawals also increased from December 2021.
This edition of the Natural Gas Monthly includes annual totals for 2022 for the first time:
- Dry natural gas production increased 3.7% for the year, from 94.6 Bcf/d in 2021 to 98.1 Bcf/d in 2022. Total dry natural gas production was the highest on record for any year since EIA began tracking it in 1930.
- Estimated natural gas consumption increased 5.4%, from 84.0 Bcf/d in 2021 to 88.5 Bcf/d in 2022. Total natural gas consumption was the highest on record for any year since EIA began tracking it in 1949.
- Total imports of natural gas increased 7.7%, from 7.7 Bcf/d in 2021 to 8.3 Bcf/d in 2022. Annual total natural gas imports were the highest since 2017.
